How to Study for a Test
In order to get good grade on tests, we have to lay down some guide lines that would help, not just for the present, but for the long run as well. I might not be that great of a test taker, but I do get good grades, at least the grade required to pass a class. Here is some of the guide lines that I lay for myself, and would suggest that all of you to at least give it a try before throwing it out the window.First of all, I want all of you to clearly understand that this method might not work for you; it might just work for me only. So please don’t blame me if it doesn’t work on you. Upon hearing that I am going to have a test on specific subject, I would always try to write it down in my notebook as a reminder that I have to study for it, if I want to pass. That is the first step that I do.Since we have the same class on every other day; when I get home on that day, I would try to first get all of my homework/assignment from yesterday done first, if I am not done yet. Then I would get my today homework/assignment done before I even start to study for my test. Once I am done with my homework/assignment, I would usually take a ten to fifteen minutes break before I start studying for my test. That way my brain would be rested and be fresh when I start studying. The way that I rest or refresh my brain is by going out and shooting hoops, kicking a soccer ball, or through reading. You can do whatever you think that will help your brain to rest. After that I would actually start to do my studying. There is no real trick here that I do to get all the information into my head; I just simply read my notes that I took in class. When I come across key dates or people I would say their names or that dates over and over again for at least seven times before moving on to new concepts. I would do this for however long I need to cover for the test. I would then take a break or shower because normally it would be night and time for bed.One thing that I fail to mention is this, always have snacks or a drink close by to turn too when you feel that you want to quit. By doing this, you will be energized and want to keep going. The other thing that I fail to mention is this, try to go to bed on time, even though you are not through your studying. This will help you greatly. One time, I refused to go to bed, and kept studying for my history exam until 1:00 A.M. Guess what, I flunked the examination, scoring only 56% out of 100%. Sleep is important, adults like us need to get 9.2 hours of sleep a day! Also I would pray and ask God to help me get those hard concepts into my pittance mind as I am studying.
